The invention relates to a method and corresponding system for evaluating the security situation in a building (100), the building (100) having location areas with access authorisation for authorised persons (IP). Only the current number (CP) of persons (P) who are physically present in at least one sub-area of the location areas is determined using a radio network having several radio stations (1) arranged in a distributed manner in the ceiling, wall or floor region, whereby the radio field interference among these radio stations (1) caused by persons (P) who are physically present in said sub-area is evaluated, in particular by means of a radio tomographic positioning and detection method. In each case, a current number (CID) of identifiers (ID), which are read by RFID read devices (2) of RFID transponders (4), is determined, the identifiers (ID) being carried by authorised persons (IP) in compliance with regulations. The RFID reading devices (2) are also arranged in the sub-area in a distributed manner in the ceiling, wall or floor region. An indicator for evaluating the current security situation in the building (100) is determined and ouput on the basis of the respective numbers of personal identifiers (CID) and the current number of persons determined (CP).

The inventive method is characterized by obtaining a value representative of the brightness of the pixels and examining said value in its temporal progression for changes that are characteristic of the occurrence of smoke. For an examination of the system for the purpose of a performance check or calibration, the signal of the camera (1) can be influenced in such a manner that a change of the video signal characteristic of the occurrence of smoke is simulated to the signal processing stage (2), namely by means of the element reducing the contrast of the video signal.
