The motor is driven by a static switch (26) controlled by electronic driver means (21). The drive method comprises an initial stage of identifying the position of the rotor poles relative to the stator pole pieces (8,9) by means of a succession of electric pulses of increasing intensity and alternating sign, until one of these saturates the stator magnetic circuit.
