A bent product having a three-dimensionally bent portion intermittently or continuously in the lengthwise direction is manufactured by supporting a steel pipe 1 at a first position A while feeding it in the lengthwise direction, locally heating the steel pipe 1 being fed at a second position B, cooling the heated portion of the steel pipe 1 at a third position C, and varying the position of a gripping means 15, which grips the steel pipe 1 in a region D downstream of the third position C, in a three-dimensional direction including the feed direction of the steel pipe 1 in a workspace including a space on the upstream side of the third position C in the feed direction of the steel pipe 1 to impart a bending moment to the heated portion of the steel pipe 1.

An impact absorption member for a vehicle, in which both ends in the axial direction of a tubular body section (52) are constructed from thick plates (62, 64) having a thickness of 1.4 mm or greater, and this enables the body section (52) to be excellently welded and secured in a butted state to installation plates (54, 56) by arc welding. By this construction, a lightweight and inexpensive crush box (50) exhibiting predetermined impact energy absorbing performance is constructed without using a bracket etc. Further, an intermediate section of the body section (52) is constructed from a thin plate (60) having a thickness less than 1.4 mm, so that the weight of the impact absorption member is reduced with predetermined impact energy absorbing performance maintained. In addition, because the plate is thinned, the impact absorption member collapses at a lower load to provide an impact energy absorption effect.
