Methods and apparatus for generating borehole seismic surveys are disclosed. The - methods and apparatus enable more accurate surveys than previous surveying systems. In some embodiments, firing of remote seismic sources is synchronized with data recording in a borehole. In some embodiments, the synchronization is based on a universal time standard. In some embodiments, GPS positioning technology is used to predict firing times and synchronize firing times with downhole and surface recording.

A technique facilitates performance of seismic profiling, such as three-dimensional vertical seismic profiling. A downhole acquisition system is provided with acoustic receivers designed to receive acoustic source signals. The firing of acoustic source signals is synchronized with the downhole acquisition system. Additionally, the firing of two or more acoustic source signals is controlled to provide simultaneous or nearly simultaneous timing of one acoustic source signal with respect to another acoustic source signal. A processing system is used to acquire and process a data stream of the initial shot and a data stream of the additional shot occurring simultaneously or nearly simultaneously.

A method and apparatus for deploying seismic detectors and monitoring seismic activity associated with a production well from a down hole location within a well. The methods and apparatus of the subject invention include in one embodiment a tubing system that is operable to be bowed during placement into a well casing. A' first eccentric bearing member is mounted upon a tubing to be run into a bore hole, cased or open hole. A second eccentric bearing member is also mounted on the tubing in an axially spaced relationship with respect to the first eccentric member and the two eccentric bearing members may have the same azimuthal orientation. A seismic tool is then mounted on a third eccentric bearing member that is mounted on the tubing intermediate the first and second eccentric bearing members at an azimuthal orientation rotated 180 degrees with respect to the first and second eccentric members.

Various implementations described herein are directed to a method of acquiring seismic data. The method may include towing an array of marine seismic streamers coupled to a vessel. The array comprises a plurality of lead-in cables and streamers, and the plurality of lead-in cables comprises an innermost lead-in cable and an outermost lead-in cable with respect to a center line of the vessel. The method may also include towing a plurality of source cables and one or more seismic sources such that the one or more seismic sources are positioned between the innermost lead-in cable and the outermost lead-in cable.
