In an image-forming section, a communication device is attached to the top surface of a developing cartridge that is detachably attached to a developing device, and a main body side communication device is attached to a copying machine main body in a manner so as to face the top portion of the communication device. When an loading operation of the developing cartridge to the copying machine main body is carried out, the main body side communication device detects this operation, and sends an electric wave for an electrical supply to the developing cartridge. The communication device transmits individual information of the developing cartridge by means of radio waves, and the main body side communication device receives, demodulates and reads this information. Based upon the results thereof, it makes a judgment as to conformity and suitability of the developing cartridge, and displays the results of the judgement or gives a warning as to the results. Thus, it becomes possible to prevent an erroneous insertion of any unit to the image-forming apparatus main body by using a method with high reliability at low costs. It is possible to provide not only the developer supplying container, but also image-forming apparatus units serving as various units related to image-forming processes and an image-forming apparatus using such units.

A developing device (8) incorporating a developer supply unit (20) and a developer discharge section, in which a supply developer including a mixture of toner and carrier is successively supplied to a developer container (16) from the developer supply unit (20) and a deteriorated developer in the developer container is discharged through the developer discharge section. The developer supply unit (20) has a sponge member (21b) for selectively attracting toner to a surface thereof, a magnet member (21a) for selectively attracting carrier to a surface thereof, and a member for scraping and bringing the toner and carrier (D) attracted to these members (21a,21b) into the developer container (16). The developer including toner and carrier in a predetermined ratio is thus stably supplied to the developer container (16). In another example of the developer supply unit, agitating of the developer is performed while shovelling the developer deposited in a lower part of the unit by a transport screw. With this structure, since the toner and carrier are evenly mixed in the unit, the developer having a uniform toner concentration is supplied to the developer container, thereby continuing satisfactory development.
