The method is preferably used for monitoring people for suspicious objects, for example for monitoring airline passengers at an airport.

The invention is characterized in that the viewing direction of the transmitting areal(s) and the direction of reception of the receiving areal(s) extend at an angle of 15° to 70°, preferably 20° to 35° to the longitudinal axis (3) of the test object (2). For evaluation of the scattered waves in the direction of the longitudinal axis (3) of the test object (2), pulse radar or FMCW radar technology is used, and for evaluation at an angle to the longitudinal axis (3), SAR technology is used.
