摘要: An autoclave 1 has a water level sensor 20 in a water reservoir 5 in the pressure vessel 2. An external water tank 21 is connected to the reservoir via an electrically-operated valve 23. An electrical resistance heating element 6 in the reservoir 5 heats the sensor 20 if it indicates a full level at the start of operation, in order to dry any exposed part of the sensor and thereby prevent an erroneous output from the sensor caused by water clinging to it. This heating of the sensor can be repeated if it continues to indicate a full level. If a low level output is produced by the sensor 20, the valve 23 is opened to allow water to flow from the tank 21 to the reservoir 5. If the valve 23 remains open for longer than a predetermined time without the sensor indicating a full level, the autocalve produces a fault signal.

The EEPROM has a first set of ten registers R4 to R13 which contain the unit value of the count together with a fault code associated with the last use of the autoclave. Two further registers R3 and R2 contain the hundreds and tens, and the ten thousands and thousands value of the count. The tens value in one of the further registers R3 is used to determine in which of the registers R4 to R13 of the first set the units value is stored, so that, each of the registers in the first set is only written into ten times for every hundred counts, thereby extending the life of the EEPROM. Another register R1 in the EEPROM contains information about the nature of the autoclave.

摘要: The pressurization period of an autoclave is controlled by an oscillator 103 which provides an output to the autoclave control unit 10. The control unit 10 has a microprocessor 100 with its own clock 101. The number of times that a portion of the program is carried out by the microprocessor during the pressurization period of the autoclave, is counted into a register 102 to decrease a separately established count in the register. This separately established count is representative of the correct operating time of the pressurization period. If, at the end of the pressurization period, the count in the register 102 exceeds zero by more than an allowable error, a fault indication is produced on a display and the autoclave door is maintained looked so as to prevent access to articles in the autoclave.
