According to one aspect, the shoe sole comprises at least one main ground engagement section specifically designed to respond to certain modes of solicitation by the foot of the player. Such section is provided with a sculpted pattern having recesses and solid areas. The recesses and solid areas are distributed to minimize pressures or stress differences throughout the ground engagement section concerned so as to provide better adherence and lower wear by abrasion in response to such mode of solicitations. Preferably this arrangement is applied to more than one main ground engagement section in the shoe sole, each of which offers a specific response to a particular mode of solicitation by a player in action. According to a preferred embodiment the recesses are made of elongated cells opening in a corresponding solid area through an elongated aperture with rounded ends. The application of these principles to the production of a tennis shoe is described.

The aim of the invention is to reduce the stresses on the front surfaces of the tread bars, located on the axially outer ends thereof, due to the residual harvested stubble, thus to reduce the risk of tearing of the axially outer ends of the bars. Said aim was achieved by a tire including a tread that includes a plurality of bars, wherein one bar (3) includes, in every axial plane (P xy ) parallel to the rotational axis of the tire, a leading profile (311) and a trailing profile (321). According to the invention, the angle (A) of the straight line (T) tangential to the leading profile (311), at one point (M) of the leading profile (311) and in relation to an equatorial plane (P), continuously increases, from a point (E) located most axially outside the leading profile (311), when the axial distance (L) between the point (M) of the leading profile and the point (E) located most axially outside the leading profile (311) increases.
