A method for communicating a plurality of data packets to a receiver in a radio communication system, comprising the steps of transmitting the data packets to the receiver, evaluating the transmission quality, comparing the evaluated transmission quality with at least two thresholds, choosing a transmission mode in dependence of the result of the preceding comparison step is disclosed wherein:

a) a first transmission mode is chosen when the evaluated transmission quality is below a first threshold, whereby in said first transmission mode the data packets are transmitted via a single radio link
b) a second transmission mode is chosen when the transmission quality is above a second threshold whereby in said second transmission mode the data packets are transmitted one time via a first radio link and a second time via an additional radio link
c) a third transmission mode is chosen when the evaluated transmission quality lies in-between said first and said second threshold whereby in said third transmission mode data packets are transmitted one time via a first radio link and a fraction of the data packets is transmitted a second time via an additional radio link.
