    摘要: A system and method for movement of self-propelled vehicles (2) along a rail (4) under external control so as to ensure safe spacing between the vehicles (2). Each vehicle (2) is driven by its own variable speed motor (14), and the speed of the vehicle (2) is controlled by a stationary cam extending beside the rail. The edge (27) of the cam rises and falls in a predetermined manner and is sensed by a cam follower (34) on each vehicle. The cam follower (34) is coupled to a transducer (40) which produces a control signal in response to the movement of the cam edge (27). Each vehicle (2) pulls along a tail (44) behind the vehicle which rides beside the edge of the cam. If a rear vehicle approaches a forward vehicle closely enough that the cam follower of the rear vehicle is raised by the tail of the forward vehicle. The speed of the rear vehicle is controlled so as to be no greater than that of the forward vehicle.
