摘要： A carbon material having excellent in adhesion performance between a substrate and a coating layer and also having excellent oxidative consumption resistance is provided. The carbon material includes: a carbonaceous substrate (1); a silicon carbide-containing carbide layer (2) formed on a surface of the carbonaceous substrate (1) and having an arithmetical mean surface roughness Ra of 10 µm and a Vickers hardness HV of 2395, the silicon carbide-containing carbide layer including a portion in which a permeation depth is 50 µm or greater in the region permeating from the surface of the carbonaceous substrate (1); and a thermal spray coating layer (3) formed on a surface of the silicon carbide-containing carbide layer (2) and made of metallic chromium. A top coat layer (4) may be provided on a surface of the thermal spray coating layer (3).
