摘要: A method and apparatus for measuring a thickness of a tire tread is disclosed. The method comprising the steps of: providing a tire tread having a first tread layer (160) formed of an electrically conductive compound and a second tread layer (130) formed of an electrically nonconductive compound; continuously conveying the tire tread; arranging a first sensor (150) and a second sensor (155) above and below the tire tread, respectively, wherein the first and second sensors (150, 155) being configured for emitting first and second radiation beams (152, 166), respectively, into the tire tread, and wherein the first and second sensors (150, 155) are connected together at a preferably fixed sensor distance or sensor height (D); receiving from the first radiation beam a first reflected radiation beam (162) from a surface (161) of the first tread layer (160) and determining a first distance (d1); receiving from the second radiation beam (166) a second reflected radiation beam (165) from an interface (141) of the first and second tread layers (160, 130) and determining a second distance (d2); receiving from the second radiation beam (166) a third reflected radiation beam (164) from a surface of the second tread layer (130) and determining a third distance (d3), and carrying out a material thickness measurement of the first and second tread layers (120, 160) by emitting the first and second radiation beams (152, 166) by the first and second sensors (150, 155), respectively, receiving the first, second, and third reflected radiation beams (162, 165, 164), and then determining a thickness (d4) of the first tread layer (160) using said first, second and third distances (d1, d2, d3) and said sensor distance or sensor height (D).

The production line comprises: a coextruder (12) for coextruding at least two rubber compositions, the coextruder (12) comprising at least two feeding inlets (22) for receiving the at least two rubber compositions, the coextruder (12) further comprising one or at least two screws (24) for driving the received at least two rubber compositions, an extrusion die (26) for forming a multi-layer tire tread extrudate (128), the one or the at least two screws (24) being configured to drive the at least two rubber compositions in the extrusion die (26); a THz sensor (14), the THz sensor being configured to irradiate the multi-layer tire tread extrudate (28) with THz electromagnetic radiation, and receiving a response of the multi-layer tire tread extrudate (28) to the THz electromagnetic radiation; and a controller (18) operatively connected to the coextruder (12) and to the THz sensor (14), the controller (18) being configured to operate the coextruder (12) based on the response of the multi-layer tire tread extrudate (28) to the THz electromagnetic radiation.

摘要: A method and apparatus for producing or characterizing a multi-layered tire tread is disclosed. The method comprises: providing a first rubber composition (24) having a first refractive index; providing a second rubber composition (26) having a second refractive index; determining a difference between the first refractive index and the second refractive index; comparing the difference to a threshold refractive index; adding a refractive index modifier (138, 238, 338) to the first rubber composition (24) and/or to the second rubber composition (26) in case the comparison provides that difference is lower than the threshold refractive index; producing a multi-layered tire tread (10) comprising a first layer (12) comprising the first rubber composition and also comprising a second layer (14) comprising the second rubber composition; irradiating the multi-layered tire tread with a THz electromagnetic radiation; and receiving radiation transmitted and/or radiation reflected by the multi-layered tire tread.
