摘要: A tone generation system is intended for use with an electronic musical instrument of the type wherein an audible tone is generated electronically in response to actuation of the instrument by a player. The invention generates digital signals capable of defining either the waveshape or the envelope characteristic of a tone for each tone initiated by such player actuation, the amplitude thereof being varied in accordance with the intensity of the player actuation initiating that tone. To define the amplitude, digital electronic circuits (22) are utilized for developing a digital scaling signal corresponding to the intensity of actuation of the instrument by the player. Other digital circuits develop (10,18) a digital waveform segment signals which define portions of a composite waveform, as represented in an orthogonal coordinate system. Further digital circuits (24) arithmetically manipulate these scaling signals and waveform segment signals to give a composite output signal defining the envelope or waveform to be produced.

摘要: A programmable tone generator for an electronic musical instrument generates a pulse train output (F out) in which in each cycle the starting time and duration of each pulse is controlled, thereby to determine the harmonic content of the electronic waves that are converted to audio sound. A binary counter (12) serves as a time base for encoding each period of a tone signal waveform into plural outputs (14) in the form of a binary code. A plurality of programmable tone generation circuits (16) are coupled with selected counter outputs (14) to comprise plural tone signal branchs (16), each providing a tone signal at a selected fundamental frequency and having selected harmonic content. Each tone signal branch (16) includes a programmable variable code generator (26) and determines the initial content of the output waveform, subsequently either maintaining or changing the fundamental frequency and harmonic content thereof.
