A device (1) for damping vibrations is illustrated and described, which device comprises: a hollow damper tube (2), a piston rod (4) with a piston (5) fastened thereto, at least one spring plate (8), and at least one securing element (10), wherein the piston (5) is arranged within the damper tube (2), and wherein the spring plate (8) is arranged outside the damper tube (2). In order to realize a reliable connection between the spring plate (8) and the damper tube (2) in an inexpensive manner, it is proposed that the spring plate (8) be connected in both non-positively locking and positively locking fashion to the damper tube (2). The use of a device of said type in a motor vehicle, and a method for the fastening of a spring plate (8) to a damper tube (2), are also illustrated and described.

The invention relates to a vibration damper (1), in particular for a chassis of a vehicle, comprising a damper tube (10) and a working piston (11) which is guided over an inner face (12) of the damper tube (10) in a longitudinal axis (13). A reinforcement sleeve (15) is arranged on an outer face (14) of the damper tube (10), and a holding fork (16) for attaching to the chassis can be arranged on the reinforcement sleeve. The reinforcement sleeve (15) is delimited by a circumferential edge (17) in the direction of the longitudinal axis. According to the invention, a sealing element (18) which surrounds the outer face (14) of the damper tube (10) is received in the reinforcement sleeve (15) in the region of the circumferential edge (17), and the circumferential edge (17) has a plastically deformed deformation section (19) which surrounds the sealing element (18). The invention further relates to a method for arranging the reinforcement sleeve (15) on the outer face (14) of the damper tube (10).
