(b) a coating layer on each Mg-Al-based hydrotalcite-type core particle, which comprises at least one compound selected from higher fatty acids, organosilane compounds and rosins; and having: (c) a plate surface diameter of from 0.3 to less than 1.0 µm, (d) a thickness of from 0.02 to 0.08 µm, (e) a heat-resisting time of not less than 160 minutes.

The particles may be used in a magnetic recording medium.
