A system and a method for reducing emission of greenhouse gasses is disclosed, in particular methane, laughing gas and/or nitrogen oxides, and/or ammonia from slurry stored in one or more slurry storage tanks. The method comprises continuously maintaining slurry stored in a slurry storage tank under acidic conditions.The method includes the steps of A: monitoring pH in the slurry present in the slurry storage tank by means of one or more pH sensors arranged in contact with the slurry in the slurry storage, B: checking if the detected pH exceeds above an upper threshold, such as an upper threshold set at pH=7, C: activate acid addition when the monitored pH exceeds the upper threshold, D: while stirring, adding acid until pH in the slurry is adjusted to within a range between the upper threshold and a lower threshold, such as between pH=2 and pH=7, in particular between pH=5 to pH=7, or more preferred pH=5 and pH=6, and - repeating steps C-D when the detected pH of step A exceeds the upper threshold. The system disclosed is adapted for automated control of the acid addition and may simplify slurry handling and/or management as well as reduce the farmer's costs for slurry handling/management and/or acid handling or storage equipment for the farmer.

A system and a method for extracting at least a part of the phosphorous content of a slurry, such as manure, wastewater and/or sludge, and recovering phosphorous and optionally nitrogen from the slurry by precipitating it as ammonium magnesium phosphate (NH 4 MgPO 4 ) is disclosed. The method comprises transferring the slurry to a crystallisation container, adding a magnesium source, such as a magnesium salt, e.g. MgCl 2 , MgSO 4 and/or magnesium oxide (MgO) and optionally an ammonium source, such as NH 4 Cl and/or NH 4 NO 3 or anhydrous ammonia, in surplus in relation to the stoichiometric amount necessary for precipitating the phosphorous as ammonium magnesium phosphate (NH 4 MgPO 4 ) to the crystallisation vessel and/or an inlet there-of. Then ammonium magnesium phosphate (NH 4 MgPO 4 ) is precipitated on the inner surface of the vessel and/or as particles in the crystallisation container, and a phosphorous reduced slurry fraction is extracted. Struvite precipitate is recovered by extracting the precipitated ammonium magnesium phosphate from the crystallisation container by re-dissolving the precipitate in an acidic aqueous solution or by suspending precipitated struvite in an aqueous phase.
