A polychromic image is reproduced and transferred onto a substrate (26) by (a) providing a positive electrolytically inert electrode (10) having a continuous passivated surface (12) moving at constant speed; (b) coating the positive electrode active surface with an olefinic substance; (c) forming on the olefin-coated positive electrode surface a plurality of colored pixels representative of a desired polychromic image and each pixel comprising juxtaposed dots of differently colored, coagulated colloid, by electrocoagulation of a colloid present in an electrocoagulation printing ink; and (d) bringing a substance (26) into contact with the colored pixels to cause transfer of the colored pixels from the positive electrode surface onto the substrate and thereby imprint the substrate with the polychromic image.
