To restrict the discharging of harmful components immediately after the starting of an internal combustion engine (1), an exhaust gas collecting apparatus (10) of an internal combustion engine comprises: a collection vessel (11) that can hold exhaust gas; an exhaust gas taking-out passage (12) through which exhaust gas is guided from an exhaust gas passage (4) to the collection vessel (11); an exhaust gas induction passage through which the exhaust gas is guided from the collection vessel (11) to the exhaust gas passage (4) at a position upstream from the catalytic converter (7); s switching valve (14) that is switchable between a position where the introduction of the exhaust gas from the exhaust gas passage to the exhaust gas taking-out passage is permitted and a position where the introduction of the exhaust gas is prevented; and an open and close valve that is switchable between a position where the introduction of the exhaust gas through the exhaust gas induction passage is permitted and a position where the introduction of the exhaust gas is prevented. Thus, there is provided an exhaust gas purifying catalyst that does not suffer from serious deterioration in the exhaust gas purifying capacity even without performing the SOx poisoning recovery control.
