wherein:

R is C 1 -C 12 alkyl, allyl or benzyl,
R 1 and R 2 are hydrogen, halogen, C 1 -C 4 alkyl, or phenyl,
R 3 is hydrogen, halogen, C 1 -C 4 alkyl, C 1 -C 4 alkoxy, CF 3 , N0 2 , phenyl or phenoxy, m is an integer from 1 to 3 and
n is zero or 1, by contacting a compound of said formula where R is hydrogen with certain halohydrocarbons in the presence of solid KOH, a phase transfer catalyst, a solvent and an effective amount of water.
