摘要： Through the past decades, several epidemiological studies have revealed that polyphenols-rich Mediterranean diet, comprising fruit and vegetables, can provide beneficial effects in humans, preventing neurodegenerative diseases and cognitive decline. After ingestion, polyphenols undergo extensive metabolization, generating a wide range of metabolites, identified as the effective bioactive molecules in human organism. Provided herein is a polyphenol metabolitebased composition for preventing and treating neurodegenerative diseases. Proof-of-principle for the latter concept is demonstrated by in vitro reduction in multiple cytokines production, usually associated to neuroinflammation and neurodegenerative diseases. The composition of the present invention can be used in nutraceutical and pharmaceutical formulations.
