摘要: A transducer (1) for converting mechanical energy to light energy has at least one molecule (3) of a first type and a plurality of molecules (4) of a second type. The molecules (4) of the second type are spaced from each other. The molecules of the first and second types (3, 4) are capable of energy transfer according to Förster Resonance Energy Transfer. One of the first type and second type of molecule is a donor molecule and the other of the first type and second type of molecule is an acceptor molecule. The transducer (1) is arranged such that the molecule (3) of the first type is movable across the molecules (4) of the second type in sequence so as to enable FRET energy transfer between the molecules of the first and second types (3, 4) in sequence thereby to cause the acceptor molecule or molecules to emit light.

摘要: An identification tag (1) has at least one molecule of a first type (3) and at least one molecule of a second type (4). The molecules (3, 4) are capable of energy transfer according to Förster Resonance Energy Transfer, with one of the types being donor molecules and the other type being acceptor molecules. The tag (1) has a substrate (5) which has a plurality of locations (6) at which molecules of the second type (4) may be located. The light intensity emitted by the acceptor molecule(s) (4) as the molecule of the first type (3) is moved across the locations (6) varies in dependence on whether a molecule of the second type (4) is or is not located in the locations (6).

摘要: The present invention provides a visible light communication transmitter (13), a visible light communication receiver (14), a visible light communication system (2), and a method of visible light communication, wherein the transmitter, the receiver, the system and the method are suitable for colour shift keying (CSK), as well as providing a method of colour shift keying. The visible light communication transmitter (13) comprises at least six, preferably seven, and more preferably eight, graphene-based light emitting devices (LED-1, LED-2, ... LED-8) of different peak transmission wavelengths from each other. The visible light communication receiver (14) comprises a corresponding number of graphene-based photodetectors (PD-1, PD-2, ... PD-8) of different peak reception wavelengths from each other. A visible light communication system according to the invention comprises such a transmitter and such a receiver, wherein each respective one of the different peak reception wavelengths of the six graphene-based photodetectors corresponds to a respective one of the different peak transmission wavelengths of the graphene-based light emitting devices. Such a system allows a method of visible light communication, preferably using colour shift keying, with a colour constellation of at least six, maybe seven, or even eight base colours. These can provide an increased number of symbols, a reduced symbol error rate and an improved signal-to-noise ratio in comparison to traditional visible light communication systems for colour shift keying, which use a colour constellation of only three or four base colours.
