摘要: A printer capable of producing simplex and duplex copies includes a tri-roller inverter (110) that employs a passive deflector gate (118) downstream from input and output nips of the tri-roller inverter (110). A sheet driven by the input nip into a reversing chute of the inverter deflects the passive deflector gate (118) to an open position that allows the sheet to enter the inversion chute and after the sheet is past the gate ( 118) it returns to close deposition, thus allowing the sheet to be driven past it in reverse by a reversing roller. Once the lead edge of the reversed sheet passes the passive deflector gate (118), a second sheet enters the input nip resulting in two sheets being in the inverter at the same time.

摘要: A document imaging system for the imaging at a selected first (12b,16) or second imaging station (12a) of document sheets (18) to be reproduced, including a pivotably mounted liftable automatic document handler (10) with an integral input tray (20) for the documents sheets, and a normally closely underlying output stacking tray (22) into which the document sheets are ejected by the automatic document handler after imaging at the first imaging station (16) for controlled stacking and retrieval, the second imaging station having a large imaging platen (12a) for the manual placement thereon of document sheets to be scanned, and a large manual platen cover (110) normally overlying the large imaging platen, and pivotably mounted to be liftable (112) for the manual placement of document sheets on the large imaging platen. The output stacking tray of the automatic document handler is integrally formed in the upper surfaces of the large manual platen cover is and not mounted to the automatic document handler. The automatic document handler is liftable (114,116) independently of the output stacking tray to provide clear access to the output stacking tray, and yet the automatic document handler is alternatively liftable together with the manual platen cover on a common or shared hinge line axis (115) by a single lifting handle (112) arrangement.

摘要: An idler assembly (200) that is both self-centering and self-aligning with a drive roll (204). The idler assembly consists of a pair of rolls (202) coaxially connected by a shaft (203), the shaft being rotatably supported in a housing (206). The housing is resiliently retained by a removable resilient spring member (208) to a fixed frame member (220) which allows the axis of rotation (250) of the pair of idler rolls and housing to pivot in more than one plane (252,254) simultaneously. This pivoting causes the axis of rotation of the idler rolls to align parallel and in contact with the drive roll. The spring member also provides an even loading of the normal force across the width of the drive nip. As a result of the alignment and even loading, skewing of a sheet is prevented as it is driven through the nip formed by the drive roll and the pair of idler rolls. The removable resilient spring member also allows for easy replaceability of the idler assembly. The housing is easily replaced between tabs (210,212) formed in the fixed frame member of a machine and opposite ends of the spring member reconnected to the tabs, thereby resiliently mounting the idler assembly in the frame member.
