For a brass instrument (2), the apparatus comprises an embouchure sensor (11) and a breath pressure sensor (12) to detect the embouchure and the breath pressure of the player as he/she plays the brass instrument (2). The detected embouchure and breath pressure are then modified with reference to a recommended embouchure and breath pressure weighted by a given assistance coefficient. The apparatus actuates the brass instrument based on the modified embouchure and breath pressure.

Second arithmetic operation section solves a motion equation of coupled vibration of the lip and reed with calculation results of the first arithmetic operation section used as initial values of the displacement yb(x), y0(x) of the lip and reed, to thereby calculate the displacement y(x, t) of the reed. Tone is synthesized on the basis of the displacement y(x, t) calculated by the second arithmetic operation section.

The branch pipes are unified together and inserted into a bell pipe of a brass instrument. The fixed part is attached to the tapered portion of a bell pipe and interposed between the interior of the bell pipe and the exterior of the main pipe. The branch pipe is designed such that the auxiliary pipe is connected to the main pipe at an interconnect part, at which an air flow propagating through the main pipe is partly branched into the auxiliary pipe.
