    摘要: The invention features a sample probe and reagent selector valve that enables selection among multiple functions of withdrawing a biological sample from a syringe or capillary into a fluid parameter sensor module, providing calibration and quality control reagents to the sensor module, and flowing a washing fluid through intake passages to prevent cross-contamination and clogging. The valve sensor module are used in conjunction with an automated analytical instrument, such as an automated blood analyzer, to increase the speed of the analysis, minimize cross-contamination between samples, and to overcome the inherent dangers of using the conventional needle/syringe or capillary methods of withdrawing fluids to be tested. The design of the valve provides performance benefits in the form of lower sample and reagent waste volumes, elimination of auxiliary valves and manifolds, and superior performance and reduced cost.

    摘要: An adapter (2) for connecting an ampule (8) to a clinical instrument has been developed. The adapter (2) allows the continuous connection of the ampule (8) to the instrument so that the contents of the ampule (8) could remain protected from exposure to air, and aliquots of solution from the ampule (8) can be periodically, and easily, withdrawn from the ampule (8). In addition, the preferred embodiment permits usage of much of the contents of the ampule (8) and helps reduce the risk of technician exposure to the sharp glass edges of the open ampule.

    摘要: Methods and apparatus are provided for non-invasively determining blood pH by a multivariate analysis technique, such as classical least squares (CLS), partial least squares (PLS), or principal components regression (PCR). The technique employs at least one spectral factor based on the difference in the spectrum of a hemoglobin fraction (e.g., oxyhemoglobin) at two different pHs (e.g., pH 7.2 and pH 7.8). The spectral factor is preferably evaluated oover the wavelength range of 520-680 nm.
