Cutting elements having accelerated leaching rates and methods of making the same are disclosed herein. In one embodiment, a method of forming a cutting element includes assembling a reaction cell having diamond particles, a non-catalyst material, a catalyst material, and a substrate within a refractory metal container, where the non-catalyst material is generally immiscible in the catalyst material at a sintering temperature and pressure. The method also includes subjecting the reaction cell and its contents to a high pressure high temperature sintering process to form a polycrystalline diamond body that is attached to the substrate. The method further includes contacting at least a portion of the polycrystalline diamond body with a leaching agent to remove catalyst material and non-catalyst material from the diamond body, where a leaching rate of the catalyst material and the non-catalyst material exceeds a conventional leaching rate profile by at least about 30%.

There are provided a method of manufacturing a grinding wheel in which abrasive grains and vacancies have prescribed densities and are uniformly dispersed, and a grinding wheel. After a first overcoat layer (2) is formed on each of CBN abrasive grains (1), a second overcoat layer (3) that is plastically deformed under a pressure lower than a pressure under which the first overcoat layer (2) is deformed is formed on the outer side of the first overcoat layer (2) to manufacture coated abrasive grains (4). The pressure under which the coated abrasive grains (4) are subjected to pressure-molding so as to be formed into a prescribed shape is equal to or higher than the pressure under which the second overcoat layer (3) is plastically deformed. Due the pressure application, the second overcoat layers (3) are deformed and flow to form a molded material (6) having a structure in which the first overcoat layers (2) contact each other and the flowing second overcoat layers (3) are moved into clearances between the coated abrasive grains (4). By sintering this, it is possible to manufacture a grinding wheel having a structure in which the CBN abrasive grains (1) are dispersed at prescribed distance that is determined by the degree of outer radius of each first overcoat layer (2) and vacancies are arranged therebetween at a prescribed density.
