Apparatus and method for forming an organized set of plants, this organized set comprising plants of different types in accordance with a predetermined organization. The apparatus comprises a number of first and second pick-up devices for picking up plants, which pick-up devices are displaceable in a first direction. The apparatus is provided with a displacing means for setting a mutual distance between the first and the second pick-up devices in a second direction to a first position and a second position, and a controller. The whole is configured such that at least one first plant and at least one second plant, which have been picked up from a first single row by the first and second pick-up devices, are able to pass each other, thus forming a second row in which the order of the first and second plants differs from that in the first row.

A continuous assemblage of pots for raising and transplanting seedlings and a method of manufacturing the assemblage is provided, in which it is possible to extend the length of a link piece without folding an extension portion or arranging a slit, thereby making it possible to handle enlargement of the interval between the planted seedlings stably and reliably. A link piece 3 is formed by folding back both ends of a strip-shaped thin film in the length direction, such that approximately one-fourth of the length of the thin film is folded back onto the same face of the thin film at each end, then attaching the folded-back portions to the same face of the thin film with a water-soluble adhesive. The link pieces 3 are disposed in two rows in a staggered arrangement in which the folded-back portions 6 are oriented such that they face the folded-back portions 6 of the opposing link pieces 3. Continuous pieces 8 are formed by using a non-water-soluble adhesive to attach both ends in the length direction of each link piece 3 to the opposing link pieces 3. Individual pots 2 are formed between the opposing link pieces 3. Therefore, it is possible to extend the length of the link piece 3 without folding an extension portion or arranging a slit, as in the conventional continuous assemblage of pots, thereby making it possible to handle enlargement of the interval between the planted seedlings stably and reliably.

Pot assembly comprising an inner pot and an outer pot. More particularly, the pot assembly is intended for cultivating sprawling plants, such as orchids and more particularly Phalaenopsis. It is proposed to fit an outer pot at the point in time when such plants are being placed in the inner pot. All this is carried out in such a manner that plant parts which project from the inner pot cannot extend into the space between the inner pot and outer pot, while the outer pot ensures that the plant parts do not extend outside the outer pot in an uncontrolled manner. Cultivation takes place in the pot assembly consisting of inner pot and outer pot and, at the end of the growing phase, the inner pot and outer pot are separated and the outer pot is preferably re-used. The invention makes it possible to (further) automate the cultivation and/or influence the development of the plant in a positive manner.

The invention also relates to an apparatus for carrying out the method.

The invention relates to a device that makes it possible to transplant any plant without difficulty and enabling better regular upkeep of the plant. It consists of strips (1) arranged in a corolla connected at their centre by a removable tie (5) and connected at their ends by a rope system (3) to modulate the diameter of the device according to that of the pot. The device is arranged such that the tie is placed at the bottom of the pot and all the strips cover the walls of the pot forming a mould (9) around the soil (7) and the roots of the plant (8) planted. If the user wishes to extract the plant, he pulls towards the outside of the pot on the rope system remaining externally accessible and the device coming out of the container. In order to facilitate the extraction of large plants, it is provided to leave one strip (1) of the removable tie (5) free, thus serving as a loop (9) and handle (10) during extraction.

A method and device for improving the efficiency of mechanical transplanting, wherein seedling balls (1) carrying no seedlings or undersize seedlings are automatically removed prior to the planting stage. Several seedling balls (1) are simultaneously extracted from a common cultivation tray (22) and deficient balls are detected and removed (17). The deficit caused by a removed seedling ball is compensated by momentarily increasing the rate of feeding balls from the tray. No separate replacement seedling supply is required.
