A ventilation control apparatus (44) for use with a building ventilation system in a building. The building ventilation system including input and outlet vents (34,36) and a fan (38). An opening (26) is formed in a partition (28) of the building for introducing ventilating air flow into the building from the input vent (34) through the opening (26) and out through the outlet vent (36). The ventilation control apparatus (44) includes a movable baffle (46) and may have a baffle counterbalance (48) attached to the movable baffle (46). The movable baffle (46) is positioned under the opening (26) for regulating air flow through the opening (26) into the building. The counterbalance (48), if used, is attached to the movable baffle (46) end weighted for closing the movable baffle (46) a desired distance relative to the opening (26) when the fan (38) is not operating and for controllably regulating movement of the movable baffle (46) relative to the opening (26) when the fan (38) is activated to create a pressure drop across the opening (26). The pressure drop creates a force which moves the movable baffle (46). The movement of the baffle (46) lowers the pressure drop and is hence selt adjusting. The baffle (46) will move to the position appropriate to the amount of air flowing. Adding weight to the counterbalance (48) will increase the pressure drop.
