    摘要: Devices, systems, and methods for glare reduction in surgical microscopy are provided. A method of operating a surgical microscope may include: receiving light reflected from the surgical field at an image sensor; processing the received light to generate image data; identifying portions of the image data representative of glare; and controlling an optical element to limit the transmission of light associated with the glare. A surgical microscope may include: an image sensor configured to receive light reflected from the surgical field, a computing device, and an optical element. The computing device may be configured to: identify portions of the light received at the image sensor associated with glare and generate a control signal to limit the transmission of the light associated with the glare. The optical element may be configured to selectively limit the transmission of the light associated with the glare in response to the control signal.

The illumination module includes a light source to provide an incident beam along an illumination axis, a condenser lens at a spaced apart distance from the light source for condensing the incident beam and emanating a condensed incident beam, a transparent plate at a spaced apart distance from the condenser lens, wherein the transparent plate comprises a light absorber, at least one projections lens system to focus the condensed incident beam, a shield at a spaced apart distance from the projection lens system to yield a first partially blocked beam to form a comea illumination doughnut, and a perforated mirror comprising a hollow cylinder. A portion of the hollow cylinder protrudes out from a reflecting face of the mirror, forming an elliptical stopper to yield a second partially blocked beam to form a pupil illumination doughnut, enabling reflex-free imaging of the retina.

    摘要: A reflectometry instrument includes a light source, a spectrometer, and a first and second lens. The light source emits an illumination beam to the macula. The spectrometer measures a detection beam that is a portion of the illumination beam reflected from the eye and is indicative of the eye characteristics (e.g. macular pigment). The first and second lenses transmit the illumination beam to the macula and transmit the detection beam from the macula to the spectrometer. The instrument is used on an undilated pupil and minimizes unwanted reflections by at least one of the following: the first and second lenses include anti-reflection coatings; the illumination and detection beams pass through the first and second lenses at locations offset from their centers; and the illumination and the detection beams remain separated when passing through the first and second lenses. Zeaxanthin, lutein, and the total macular pigment levels are measured by the instrument.
