摘要: An implantable positive pressure medication infusion device is provided which is programmable over a wide dynamic range and yet the maximum flow of medication into the body, in the event the inlet valve of the device leaks or fails in the valve open position, is limited to a safe value which is much lower than the maximum programmable infusion rate of the device. An auxiliary flow restrictor is also provided which bypasses the programmable pumping unit and assures a minimum flow of medication into the body in the event of failure of the programmable pumping unit or its electronic drive. An arrangement is also provided for detecting catheter clogging or failure of the programmable pumping unit in either a positive or negative pressure device.

摘要: The present invention relates to method and apparatus for treating waste liquids containing body fluids so as to prevent problems such as nosocomial infection due to such waste liquids containing body fluids discharged from patients under (surgical) operation or treatment, particularly those waste liquids containing blood or an irrigation liquid used to irrigate the body cavity of such patient. The method includes collecting a waste liquid containing body fluids into a container, separating the waste liquid into a supernatant liquor and a flocculate within the container, discharging the supernatant liquor from the container, and disposing of the flocculate remaining in the container together with the container.

摘要: Apparatus for use in wound therapy of mammals is described, the apparatus comprising: a dressing covering the wound, the dressing being substantially sealed to prevent ingress of ambient atmospheric air to the wound; aspiration means operably connected to a space between the dressing and the wound by an aspiration conduit sealed to the point of entry between wound and dressing against ingress of ambient atmosphere, said conduit being for aspiration of said wound and for removal of fluid from said space between said wound and said dressing; a waste container for receiving aspirated fluid to be discarded operably connected to said aspiration conduit; and heating means for heating said fluid in order to increase the vapour pressure thereof and to cause evaporation to reduce the volume of the fluid in the waste container. In a preferred embodiment of the present invention the waste fluid is also provided with a sparge gas.

摘要: This invention relates to the disposal of a waste fluid containing a body fluid, such as blood and lymph, and provides a method of disposing of a waste fluid containing a body fluid by which a treatment tank can be transported easily after the collection of a waste fluid and the waste fluid can be incinerated together with the tank with ease, and a treatment tank suitably used therefor. The disposal method comprises the steps of collecting a waste fluid which contains a body fluid and a coelom washing fluid in a reservoir (2) made from a synthetic resin by sucking the former into the latter, removing water contained in the waste fluid through a filter (17) capable of separating contagious micro-organisms and thereafter discarding the tank (2), which contains the contagious micro-organisms in the waste fluid, together with the filter (17). The treatment tank according to the present invention used suitably to practice this method consists of a treatment tank (1) for a waste fluid containing a waste fluid, which tank is composed of a reservoir (2) made from a synthetic resin for storing the waste fluid therein and both of a waste fluid feed pipe (7) and a vent (8) provided therein, the reservoir (2) being provided with filter (17) capable of separating contagious micro-organisms, a pipe (12) for discharging the water in the waste fluid which has passed through the filter (17), and a valve (14) in the discharge pipe (12).
