An orientation and position tracking system in three-dimensional space and over a period of time utilizing multiple inertial and other sensors for determining motion parameters to measure orientation and position of a moveable object. The sensors, for example vibrational and angular velocity sensors, generate signals characterizing the motion of the moveable object. The information is received by a data acquisition system and processed by a microcontroller. The data is then transmitted via wireless communication to an external data reception system (locally based or a global network). The information can then be displayed and presented to the user through a variety of means including audio, visual, and tactile.

The system of this invention is capable of permitting the golfer to refine his swing by display of the relative position of the club face and ball at point of impact, club angle at impact and the club speed at impact. Thus, the golfer is able to adjust one or more of these variables at a time and determine the likely result or effect upon the other(s).

A processing system apparatus is arranged to receive user inputs differentiated from other users' inputs and to provide variable outputs which are individualized to each user. The processing system apparatus receives and processes inputs and displays images whose simulated physical movements are interactively controlled by each user's individual, personal, idiosyncratic inputs. The apparatus accepts such user-specific inputs into an 'open' knowledge base and processes such inputs to produce user-specific, idiosyncratic outputs. In effect, the knowledge base learns from the user and the user learns from the feedback produced by the processing system apparatus. The processing system apparatus is further arranged so that as each user's successively transmitted inputs are received, its knowledge base stores and integrates such inputs so that outputs, in the form of simulated movements by user controllable images represent processed, idiosyncratic, updated and on-going inputs.

Devices and methods for the assessment and biofeedback training of coordination skills of a subject critical to maximizing the power and accuracy of athletic ball-strike activities. In preferred embodiments, the invention provides for assessment and biofeedback training of weight bearing and center of gravity control under conditions requiring the athlete to strike a ball such that the distance and direction of flight trajectory of the ball are accurate relative to a performance goal. One embodiment of the invention includes a body movement sensor (11), a ball strike sensor (12), a display (14), and a computer (13). The body movement sensor (11) provides an output indicative of the motion of the subject's body (15) over a period of time including the moment of ball strike. The computer (13) causes the display (14) to show both a trajectory of the motion of the subject's body (15) and the moment of ball strike in relation to a region of the trajectory.

The present invention is an apparatus, and method for using head gear to sense the motion of the wearer's head, and output a signal indicative of the motion. Sensors (40) are used to detect head motion about two mutually perpendicular axes. The sensor signal is fed into a microprocessor (30) to compute a feedback signal indicative of the deviation of the motion from a desired, preprogrammed path. The feedback signal is delivered to an indicator (50) to alert the wearer of the head motion. The device is adaptable to monitor head motions for various athletic, sporting, and safety applications.
