The present invention provides forming methods of one-piece weldless wheels made of metal sheets including the steps of rolling, forming a primary wheel rim and a primary wheel disc, roll forming, compressing and shaping, in order to obtain one-piece weldless wheels made of metal sheets. The forming methods of one-piece weldless wheels made of metal sheets of the present invention can form weldless wheels made of metal sheets by rolling, cold roll forming and cold extruding, which can reduce energy consumption by 45-55% and cut down material cost by 5-15% while improve strength of the wheel by 20-30%. A wheel with different thicknesses (The thicknesses of various sections of the wheel are different.) can be formed by the methods of the present invention and such wheel can meet the requirements on mechanical strength. Besides, the methods also can significantly improve the precision of the wheel and reduce the swing value and jerk value to the minimum. Additionally, the wheel produced by the methods of the present invention is safer, and the regular air tight test on the wheel is not necessary. Moreover, the present invention also provides one-piece weldless wheels made of metal sheets which are manufactured by the methods of one-piece weldless wheels made of metal sheets.

The invention relates to a method and a device for producing vehicle wheels having a rim consisting of a steel material. A tubular element having uniform wall thickness is used as work piece and clamped in a flow turning machine. At least one profiling roller is radially advanced by means of which the work piece is radially drawn in and a rim profile is formed. In order to reduce the mass of the rim, the work piece is clamped in a cylindrical rolling arbor before the rim profile is formed, the diameter of said arbor corresponding to the inner diameter of the tubular element. The wall thickness is reduced in a defined manner in given partial areas and the work piece is axially extended by the radial and axial advancement of the at least one flow turning roller, whereby areas having different wall thickness are produced. The profile of the rim is then formed.

A process is disclosed for manufacturing a light metal wheel in a single piece from a wrought aluminium material, preferably an alloy of the AlMgSi type, by flow turning or rolling a warm blank. The blank is solution heat treated at temperatures around 530 °C, then is quenched and artificially aged at approximately 150° to 200°. The solution heat treated blank is controllably quenched at approximately 200 °C, is flow turned or rolled at this temperature, while a further temperature rise is avoided, and is then artificially aged.

Wheels of automobiles comprise a disc part (11) and a peripheral rim part (12). The disc part is usually formed by forging. Then, rim part is shaped by rolling. So a large workshop and many apparatuses are required to manufacture the wheel. An object of the invention is to reduce a number of the apparatus. The initial material is formed so as to combine a central disc part (11) and a peripheral annular part (12) beforehand. A first ram (3a) has a pressing surface (31) for shaping an outer side of the disc part and a peripheral surface (32) for shaping an outer rim, and a second ram (3b) has a pressing surface (33) for shaping an inner side of the disc part and a peripheral surface (34) for shaping an inner rim. The rams rotate on their axes synchronously in the same direction and press the central disc part to shape the disc part of the wheel. At the same time or after a shaping roller (4) forms the rim parts by pressing the peripheral part from the side.

This invention provides a rotary forging apparatus which can prevent a generation of cracks or flashes on the disc part (1) or the rim part (11) when the apparatus forges a wheel having a rim part (11) which consists of a small rim part and a large rim part. This invention provides a rim-shaping surface around the pressing surface of the second ram (302) for shaping a small rim and an annular wall (32) standind out toward the first ram (301) at a peripheral edge of the rim-shaping surface for restraining and shaping an end of the small rim. A bottom surface of the shaping roller (2) comes into touch with or comes very close to a top face of the annular wall (32).
