A boring tool capable of accurately forming a bored hole by securing the rigidity of a reamer to prevent turn out of the reamer at high speeds and enabling an increase in life by suppressing the breakage thereof by cutting resistance. The boring tool (21) is inserted into a pilot hole formed in a workpiece beforehand to cut the inner wall surface of the pilot hole. The boring tool comprises a shank part rotated about an axis (O), an edge part with a cutting edge (30) at the tip of the shank part, and a chip discharging groove (27) formed in the outer peripheral part of the edge part and extending from the tip side to the rear end side. The cutting edge (30) is formed at a crossed ridge part between the wall surface (28) of the chip discharging groove (27) facing forward in the tool rotating direction (T) and the outer peripheral surface (29) of the edge part. The boring tool is characterized in that the cross-section of the chip discharging groove (27) vertical to the axis (O) is formed in a U-shape.

The valve seat and guide machine comprises a base structure on which is pivotally supported a pantograph having a major arm (112) on which is mounted a drive motor (138) and minor arm (110) which moves slidably with respect to the major arm. Pivotally attached to each arm of the pantograph is a head portion (118) with a support frame (118) which retains a spherical head (140) and a plurality of sphere seats (142, 144) for supporting the spherical head (140) so that it can pivot around its centerpoint at the center of the sphere. A stepper motor (152) is disposed at the top of the spherical head and a spindle (150) disposed with the spherical head (140) retains a cutting bit (156) and a pilot (158) which extend from the bottom of the spherical head. Small z-axis displacement and spindle feed/retraction along the z-(vertical) axis is provided by the stepper motor (152). The drive motor (138) rotates a transmission linkage which, in turn, rotates the spindle (150) using cone-shaped pinions (318, 320) to cause the cutting bit, typically carbide, to cut the valve seat. Small x, y displacements are enabled by moving the entire spherical housing and its supporting sphere seats with respect to the support frame. The pantograph swings up and down on the base to provide large z-axis displacement to remove the spindle from the cutting position and to provide clearance for movement to another machine site. A system controller (162) receives feedback from system monitors to control spindle rotations and feed/retraction.

In to ensure a compact design with a high-performance motor, a hollow shaft (50) is mounted in the main body (12) so that it can rotate about an axis concentric with the axis of motion (52) of the thrust element (18), the hollow shaft (50) having an internal thread which engages in an external thread (42) around the thrust element (18), plus a toothed ring (62), concentric with the external thread (42) and designed to engage in at least one gearwheel (70) mounted on the drive shaft (68) of the motor.

Die Erfindung bezieht sich auf ein Verfahren und ein Werkzeug zur spanabhebenden Feinbearbeitung von Werkstücken, insbesondere Ventilführungen an Zylinderköpfen von Kraftfahrzeugen. Das erfindungsgemäße Verfahren ist dadurch gekennzeichnet, dass sich eine mit dem Werkzeug mitdrehende Auflaufhülse, die während der Bearbeitung mit Hilfe des Kühl- und Schmiermittels hydraulisch gegen eine fertig bearbeitete Fase des Ventilsitzes gepreßt wird, in dieser Fase zentriert und dabei mit ihrer Bohrung das Werkzeug so führt, dass die Bohrung in der Ventilführung nach ihrer Fertigbearbeitung mit großer Genauigkeit konzentrisch zur Fase des Ventilssitzes angeordnet ist. Erfindungsgemäß wird außerdem ein Werkzeug mit folgenden Merkmalen vorgeschlagen:
a) das Werkzeug (2) ist fest mit der bei der Bearbeitung sich drehenden und axial verschieblichen Werkzeugaufnahme (8, 9) verbunden, b) mit der Werkzeugaufnahme (8, 9) ist eine Auflaufhülse (1) drehfest aber axial verschieblich verbunden, c) das Werkzeug (2) ist mit dem vorderen Ende in einer Bohrung (11) der Auflaufhülse (1) geführt und d) die Auflaufhülse (1) ist während der Bearbeitung gleitend oder rollend direkt oder indirekt auf der Vorderkante (5) des Werkstückes abgestützt.
