When viewed in the thicknesswise direction, these slopes (12a, 12b) extend from the center of the whetstone toward the both sides thereof at an inclination angle of 3 to 5° to the crosswise (widthwise) direction, and meet in a nearly V-shaped state. The first and second slopes (12a, 12b) have an arc-shaped contour as viewed in the crosswise direction. The whetstone (10) is obtained by binding composite abrasive grains with a vitrified bond, said composite abrasive grains comprising: soft abrasive grains which are chemically reactive with a material to be cut and which do not cut the material; and hard abrasive grains which can cut the material.

Verfahren zum Feinschleifen von Ringen (1) auf der Ringaußenfläche oder auf der Ringinnenfläche, insbes. zum Feinschleifen von Wälzlagerlaufringen, unter Zuführung einer Spülflüssigkeit. Ein zu bearbeitender Ring wird in einer Werkstückaufnahme (2) mechanisch zentriert und eingespannt sowie um seine Achse angetrieben. Die zu bearbeitende Ringfläche wird beim Schleifvorgang einer Vermessung unterworfen. Der Schleifvorgang wird nach Maßgabe der Vermessung geregelt oder gesteuert. Eine berührungslose Vermessung wird mit zumindest zwei gleichen Meßköpfen (5) durchgeführt, aus denen Spülflüssigkeit als hydraulisches Meßmittel (7) aus jeweils zumindest einer Düsenöffnung austritt. Das hydraulische Meßmittel wird freistrahlfrei in die Spülflüssigkeitsschicht eingeführt, die die zu bearbeitende Ringfläche mitnimmt und die sich zwischen dem Meßkopf (5) und der Ringfläche ausbildet. - Auch eine Vorrichtung zur Durchführung des Verfahrens wird angegeben.
