In use, the shield portion is positioned above the blade, thereby intercepting debris flying from the blade and towards the worker. The shield is particularly designed for digging tools having a slidably fit tool head that engages an outwardly tapered working end of the handle, with the shield being attached to the handle in the same manner as the tool head itself.
