    摘要: A method and apparatus are disclosed for flatproofing a tire and wheel assembly (208) with a flexible, lightweight foam-fill by supplying at least two polyurethane reactive materials to a static mixer (116). The static mixer mixes the reactants, and a nucleating gas is supplied to the mixed reactants in the static mixer to form a liquid reactant mixture with entrained gas. The reactant mixture is injected into the tire and wheel assembly where the mixture reacts and foams replacing the air in the tire with a flexible, lightweight semi-open cell foam-fill. The resulting foam-filled tire and wheel assembly is then allowed to cure.

    摘要: A semi-pneumatic tire assembly including a tire casing (22) and a lining (26) is provided. The lining (26) includes a contoured inward surface (30) defining an inflation chamber (18) about an associated wheel rim. The lining (26) minimizes the risk of puncture damage from an object penetrating the tire casing (22) while allowing pneumatic cushioning of the ride and cooler running temperatures as compared to solid-fill tires. Additionally, the semi-pneumatic tire will carry the same load or more than the same tire filled with permafoam and/or solid urethane foam wingfil. The tire assembly is formed by injecting a curable, lining-forming material (96) into a cavity (57) defined between the tire casing (22) and a molding member (50). The molding member (50) includes a contoured outer surface (54) which molds the inward surface of the lining (26). The molding member (50) may be an inflatable airbag (100) retained in the tire assembly during service. Alternately, the molding member (50) may be a solid core (114) which is removed prior to mounting the tire casing (22) and lining (26) on the associated rim.

    摘要: A toroidal semifinished product (5) made of raw elastomeric material is semivulcanized in a semivulcanization chamber (4) defined between two half-moulds (2, 3) disposed close to each other. The same pressure as that exerted by the gases generated in the semifinished product (5) is created in the mould (1a). The half-moulds (2, 3) are moved apart from each other and pressure in the mould is gradually reduced, thereby giving rise to the expansion and consequent transferring of the semifinished product (5) from the semivulcanization chamber (4) to a surrounding final vulcanization chamber (6). When the inner diameter of the semifinished product (5) is larger than the inner diameter of the final vulcanization chamber (6), said chamber is closed at its inner circumferential edge and then, after possible pressure increase in the mould, at its outer circumferential edge, in order to integrally enclose the semifinished product and enable completion of the vulcanization process.
