Die Erfindung beschreibt ein Verfahren zur Einstellung des Druckbildes einer Rotationsdruckmaschine durch die Einstellung der Relativposition der an der Farbübertragung beteiligten Walzen (3, 7, 8), wobei zumindest ein Teil dieser Walzen (7, 8) durch eigene Stellantriebe (M1 bis M4) sowohl gemeinsam als auch unabhängig voneinander gegeneinander verfahren wird, so dass die am Druckprozess beteiligteri Walzen (3, 7, 8) gegeneinander anstellbar sind. Mit mindestens einer Kamera (K) werden Messvorgänge durchgeführt, bei denen aufeinanderfolgend Intensitätswerte des Lichts aufgenommen werden, welches zumindest von Bildabschnitten des Druckbilds reflektiert wird. Zu bemerken ist, dass die Intensitätswerte einer Steuer- und Regeleinheit zugeführt werden, und dass die Steuer- und Regeleinheit aufgrund der gemessenen Intensitätswerte für die Stellantriebe zumindest eines Teils der am Druck- und Einfärbeprozess beteiligten Walzen Signale erzeugt.

A magnetic field is applied to planarize magnetic pigment flakes relative to a surface. In many applications pigment flakes tend to align parallel to each other and to the surface to which they are applied. In some printing operations, pigment flakes that are applied parallel to the substrate are pulled out of plane when the print screen or printing die is lifted off the substrate. If the pigment flakes include a suitable magnetic structure, a magnetic field can be applied to subsequently align the flakes or enhance the alignment of the flakes in the plane of the substrate if the carrier that the flakes are dispersed in is still fluid, enhancing the visual quality of the printed image, especially with optically variable pigments.

A photogravure printing method and machine for printing films (7) uses a water based ink and avoids customary problems associated with wetting of the plate, bleed, fogging and drying by using a printing drum (3) having between 200 and 400 mesh lines with a depth between 10 and 17 µ. Left-over ink may be reduced by having an ink reservoir formed with a trough (4) into which the inking roller (2) dips the trough (4) being associated with a drip tray (1a) located beneath the printing drum (3). Printing may be improved further by using a doctor blade assembly (5) having two blades of differing resilience. In a modification two inking rollers are used in spaced relationship at the lower part of the printing drum.
