A conveyor system and method for steering and shifting an associated strip component to a desired transverse position includes a sensor (46) for sensing the transverse position of the associated strip component (28), a shaft (64) rotatable about an axis generally perpendicular to the direction of motion of the strip component, and a plurality of guide disks (70) rotatably mounted on side by side sleeve bearings which are keyed to the shaft. Each of the guide disks has an inner circumferential bearing surface and an outer circumferential surface for engagement with the bottom surface of the associated strip component. Each of the guide disks is canted at a fixed angle (76) with respect to the shaft axis. Additionally the shaft is axially movable. The conveyor system includes an apparatus for simultaneously moving the shaft axially and rotating the shaft about the shaft axis to change the angle at which the guide disks engage the strip material and shift the strip material in response to signals from the sensor as to the location of the strip component.

Um einen Förderer für Stückgut zu schaffen, der eine verminderte Störanfalligkeit aufweist, wird vorgeschlagen, daß die Durchmesser (D 1 , D 2 ) und in Förderrichtung (F) gesehen die Breite (B 1 ) der sich verjüngenden Abschnitte (5) und der zylinderförmigen Abschnitte (6) der Rollen (3) in Abstimmung mit der Dicke (s) des Gurtes (4) derartig gewählt sind, daß bei Ablenkung eines Gurtes (4) durch Stückgut von der höchsten Stelle (7) des sich verjüngenden Abschnittes (5) in Richtung des zylinderförmigen Abschnittes (6) dieser Gurt (4) den Kontakt zu dem nun auf den benachbarten Gurten (4) oder der höchsten Stelle (7) der Rolle (3) aufliegenden Stückgutes verliert und somit vor Erreichen des benachbarten sich verjüngenden Abschnittes (5) und nach Weitertransport des Stückgutes selbsttätig wieder durch den durchgehend bestandenden Kontakt zu dem sich verjüngenden Abschnitt (5) in Richtung dessen höchsten Stelle (7) des sich verjüngenden Abschnitt (5) wandert.

A method and apparatus for conveying and applying a strip component (11) such as a tire tread is disclosed. The method includes the steps of placing the strip component on a belt conveyor (16), determining a guideline (52) of the strip component (11) at an exit end (20) of the belt conveyor (16), and laterally adjusting the exit end (20) of the belt conveyor (16) to align the guideline (52) of the strip component (11) with a predetermined guideline such as the guideline of a tire building drum (12). The apparatus includes a belt support transverse housing (76) which is laterally moveable by a motion controller (64) in response to a sensor (58) which detects the guideline (52) of the strip component (11). Guides on the transverse housing (76) move the belts of the conveyor (16) on slider plates without physically touching the conveyed strip component (11), thereby preventing damage to the component material. The invention described above may be utilized in a single conveyor, or in multiple conveyor apparatus where the conveyors may be keyed together for synchronized transmission of the components.
