摘要:
A mass transfer device is provided which comprises a housing (60) enclosing a bundle (10) of hollow fibers, the housing having fluid inlet and outlet manifolds (70,74) on respective opposite sides with inlet and outlet ports (72,76) respectively communicating with the manifolds. The outlet port (76) is axially spaced on the housing (60) from the inlet port (72). The housing (60) has an internal circular section portion receiving the bundle (10) and the inner wall of the housing (60) adjacent the fluid outlet manifold (74) includes an expansion volume (82) for the adjacent hollow fibers. The angular extent of the expansion volume (82) over the bundle (10) is greater than the angular extent of the outlet manifold (74) over the bundle (10).

The present invention relates to a method for positioning at least one thread, band or like element (8) in a pre-determined pattern above a conveyer path (1) with the aid of thread outfeed device (3) having at least one thread outlet device (5). In accordance with the invention, the thread outlet, or each thread outlet, is moved in a simple or a composite rotational path in a plane parallel with the conveyer path, and the path is moved linearly in relation to the rotational axis of the thread outlet. This will cause the thread outlet to move in a spiral-like movement path relative to the conveyer path. The conveyer path has mounted thereon dogging elements (2) which are located within the spiral-like movement path of the thread outlet, such as to enable the thread to be laid out in a pattern determined by the dogging elements. The invention also relates to apparatus for carrying out the method.

A process for making a hollow fiber mass transfer device. A bundle (12) of hollow fiber (34) is formed by winding a length of hollow fiber around a core (38) from an arm (20) that is in a plane at an acute angle with respect to the longitudinal axis of the core and is between opposite ends of the core. Relative rotation is provided between the longitudinal axis of the core and the position of the winding arm. During winding of the hollow fiber around the core, there is an increase in the ration of (a) the angular velocity of the wind and (b) the relative rotational velocity between the longitudinal axis of the core and the position of the winding arm. In this manner, the void fraction of radially-outward annuli of the wound bundle is less than the void fraction would be if the ratio remained constant.

An apparatus for wrapping a body (1) with a length of tape (2) comprises a feeding means (3) including a tape guide (5), means (10) for rotating the body (1) about a first axis (20), the feeding means (3) and the body (1) being relatively moveable between a first position in which rotation of the body (1) about the first axis (20) causes the tape (2) to be wrapped across the body (1) in a first direction and a second position in which the tape (2) is wrapped across the body (1) in the reverse direction. Means (11) is included for rotating the body (1) about a second axis to thereby effect the movement between said first and second positions. A method of tape wrapping is also described.

A hollow filament bundle for use in a separator module is made by rotating two co-axial spiders 24 and 28 and looping a continuous hollow filament which is fed from a package 32 alternately around the arms 26 and 30 of the two spiders. This is done by means of a guide40 which is reciprocated between the two spiders by a screw threaded shaft 34 which is rotated first in one direction and then the other. Owing to the rotation of spiders which occurs as the filament is being guided between them, the filament is laid along a series of helical paths. The paths of successive lengths of the filament are oppositely handed so that a coreless bundle of the lengths of filament is built up with the filaments in the bundle crossing over each other at multiple crossover points.

A method of making coreless hollow filament bundles comprises winding a hollow filament 20 around a drum 22 having a number of axially extending vanes 24. The winding is formed in layers, each layer being a helix and adjacent layers being wound in opposite directions axially of the drum sothat all the turns of the helix forming one layercross all the turns of the helices forming the adjacent layers. The winding is then slid along the drum so that it is axially collapsed and forms an annular rope around one end of the drum. The annular rope is then cut into segments, each segment being the length of rope between adjacent vanes 24. Each segment forms a filament bundle and the ends of the filament lengths in each bundle are potted in the usual way.

The invention provides a method and apparatus for easily and efficiently manufacturing a cable bead, which features excellent wire winding performance. In this method, an annular core (3) is held by a core rotating means. Then a reel (2) wound with a wire is revolved in one direction through the inside and the outside of the core (3) by a reel revolving means (20) by holding the reel (2) wound with a wire alternately on one side and on the other side of the core (3). And a wire is wound helically around the core (3) as the core (3) is rotated in a circumferential direction in association with the revolving motion of the reel (2).
