The invention relates to a method for the automatic determination of the effective mass (meff) of a door system that is driven by a motor and comprises at least one door. According to said method, a modification (ΔV) of the speed that occurs during an acceleration displacement is determined and a force variable, e.g. the motor current or an armature voltage is totalled or integrated during the acceleration displacement. The effective door mass (meff) is determined from the sum or integral of the force variable and the speed modification. The invention also relates to a control unit for the automatic determination of the effective door mass (meff), said unit comprising a memory for force variable profiles. The control unit is designed in such a way that a determination of the mass can be carried out for different force variable profiles in the memory using the same program code.

The invention relates to a method and an apparatus for controlling advance opening of doors in a double-deck elevator, in which elevator a car frame (2) supporting the elevator cars (Ia and Ib) is moved by- means of a set of hoisting ropes (3) by a hoisting machine (46) provided with a traction sheave. When the elevator is approaching the target floor levels (51, 52), the velocity of the elevator cars (Ia and Ib) in the car frame (2) in relation to the car frame (2) is measured and, based on the measurement result, the ve locity of the elevator cars (Ia and Ib) relative to the floor levels (51, 52) is calculated.

By evaluating the destination call, a number of boarding or disembarking passengers can be planned for each stopping floor. A corresponding door opening holding time of the elevator door (6) is determined for each stopping floor in order to allow a registered passenger to board or disembark on a stopping floor. Furthermore, a number of passengers disembarking the elevator car (10) on the stopping floor and a number of passengers boarding the elevator car (10) on the stopping floor are determined. A closing of the elevator door (6) is triggered regardless of the determined door opening holding time if the number of passengers disembarking and boarding on the stopping floor, said number being determined by the sensor system (4), matches the number of boarding or disembarking passengers planned for the stopping floor.
