Das erfindungsgemäße Verfahren dient zur Herstellung von Zylinderrohrabschnitten aus vorzugsweise aus Glas bestehenden Rohren, insbesondere für die Verwendung als Spritzenzylinder. Die Rohre (2) werden aus der Bevorratungsstation (3) zunächst vereinzelt und sodann einzeln in die Bearbeitungsstation (4) überstellt. Dort werden die Rohre (2) zum aufeinanderfolgenden Abtrennen der Zylinderrohrabschnitte (1) axial verschiebbar gehalten und um ihre Längsachse drehangetrieben, wobei die Abtrennung der Zylinderrohrabschnitte (1) durch einen Laser (6) erfolgt. Sodann wird der Zylinderrohrabschnitt (1) nach seiner Abtrennung axial auf Abstand vom Rohr (2) verfahren. Die sich gegenüberstehenden Stirnflächen werden des Rohrs (2) und des Zylinderrohrabschnitts (1) gleichzeitig oder nacheinander zu einem Wulst umschmolzen. A reforming mandrel and a method of use reforming mandrel to reform glass are described. The reforming mandrel comprises an upstream portion, a downstream portion and an at least partially hollow interior. The upstream portion may have an intake inlet for fluid flow. The downstream portion may be axially spaced from the upstream portion. The downstream portion may have a flattened cross-section defined by flattened peripheral portions joined by curved peripheral portions. At least one curved peripheral portion may be made of porous material resistant to a temperature of at least 1000° C. The at least partially hollow interior may communicate with the intake inlet and the porous material.
