An optical device constructed by bonding together optical parts by an adhesive layer which has excellent heat resistance, suppresses the generation of bubbles at the time of curing and eliminates a defect such as clouding caused by bubbles. This optical device is constructed by bonding together at least two optically transparent optical parts by an optically transparent adhesive layer. This adhesive layer comprises a matrix containing oxygen atoms and at least one type of network forming atoms selected from the group consisting of silicon, titanium, zirconium, aluminum and germanium, at least a part of the metal atoms is bonded to other metal atom(s) through a polyvalent hydrocarbon group having 2 to 8 carbon atoms and directly bonded to a monovalent hydrocarbon group such as alkyl group, and the contents of the above metal atom, polyvalent hydrocarbon group and monovalent hydrocarbon group are adjusted to ensure that the refractive index value of the adhesive layer should approximate to the refractive index values of the at least two optically transparent optical parts. There is also provided an adhesive composition for forming the above adhesive layer.
