Procédé de teinture d'un article fibreux contenant des fibres d'un polymère de polyamide au moyen d'une teinture anionique, et produits teints obtenus selon ce procédé. Le procécé consiste à immerger l'article dans un bain de teinture composé d'un solvant liquide destiné à la teinture anionique. Le solvant liquide et l'article sont chauffés jusqu'à atteindre une température au moins égale à la température de transition de teinture de la fibre du polymère de polyamide. La teinture anionique est ajoutée au bain de teinture sous forme d'un concentré liquide miscible à un taux d'addition de teinture pendant une période d'addition de teinture régulée. Au moins une partie de la teinture est ajoutée pendant que le solvant et l'article sont à une température au moins égale à la température de transition de teinture. On remue le bain au cours de l'addition de la teinture et pendant que la température du solvant et de l'article est au moins égale à la température de transition de teinture afin de mélanger le concentré de teinture avec le solvant du bain pour produire une solution de teinture diluée par rapport à l'aricle et pour permettre à la teinture d'être transportée vers l'article. Le fait de remuer le bain permet aussi, en général, d'obtenir un transport pratiquement uniforme de la teinture anionique vers l'article. Le taux d'addition de teinture est régulé au moins pendant que la température du solvant et de l'article est au moins égale à la température de transition de teinture, de sorte que le taux d'addition de teinture constitue l'élément régulateur primaire du taux d'absorption de la teinture par l'article.

A composition and its method of use are disclosed for controlling rheology of an aqueous dye, which composition comprises 1-30 parts of a gum selected from the group consisting of xanthan gum, rhamsan gum, welan gum and mixtures thereof and 70-99 parts of a water soluble polysaccharide having alginate equivalent rheology, preferably an alginate. Also disclosed is a color imparting composition for fabric or carpet printing which comprises 90-99% of an aqueous dye component and 1-10% of the rheology control component. The polysaccharide is preferably an alginate, starch, cellulosic polymer or guar gum or mixtures thereof.
