The valve system is arranged such that, when in the first closed configuration, a pressure of the fluid increases to facilitate deploying the inner tube assembly towards a second end of the drill string. The valve system moves to the open configuration in response to the inner tube assembly reaching a vicinity of the second end of the drill string and being prevented from moving further towards the second end of the drill string. The valve system is arranged such that, when in the open configuration, fluid can flow to a drill bit located at or near the second end of the drill string. The valve system moves to the second closed configuration when fluid is pumped along the interior region of the drill string towards the inner tube assembly in a direction from the second end of the drill string to the inner tube assembly. The valve system is arranged such that, when in the second closed configuration, the pressure of the fluid increases to facilitate retrieving the inner tube assembly from the vicinity of the second end of the drill string.

The system includes a drill string, an inner core barrel assembly, an outer core barrel assembly, and a retrieval tool that connects the inner core barrel assembly to a wireline cable and hoist. The drill string comprises multiple variable geometry drill rods. The inner core barrel assembly comprises a non-dragging latching mechanism, such as a fluid-driven latching mechanism that contains a detent mechanism that retains the latches in either an engaged or a retracted position. The inner core barrel assembly also comprised high efficiency fluid porting. Accordingly, the drilling system significantly increases productivity and efficiency in core drilling operations by reducing the time required for the inner core barrel assembly to travel through the drill string.     摘要: Coring apparatus (10) and method are disclosed which provide for hydraulic latching of an inner core barrel (26) within an outer core barrel (12). The apparatus includes a valve face (48) disposed around the inner core barrel (26) and valve seat (52) disposed around the bore of the outer core barrel (12) that close to form a restriction in drilling fluid flow path (54). A hydraulic differential force is thereby created which holds the inner barrel (26) in place. Axially oriented bores (64) in a hanger assembly (58) and in stabilizers (62) are disposed along the inner core barrel (26) to provide a flow path for the drilling fluid after the restriction is formed. The bores are calibrated to produce a pre-determined hydraulic force on the inner barrel (26). A bearing assembly (30) is used to prevent transmission of outer barrel (12) rotation to the inner core barrel (26). The outer surface of the bearing assembly (30) forms the valve face (48) so as to form the drilling fluid restriction and also provides an axial stop that prevents further axial movement of the inner barrel (26) towards the core head (14).
