A cutting tool assembly (10) includes a support block (12), a replaceable spray nozzle housing, a liquid seal tight insert ring and first and second fluid passages. The first fluid and second fluid passage has an axis and extends between the concealable outer surface portion (22) and a first (20) surface portion of the support block. The first and second fluid passages are substantially straight between first and second outer surfaces so as to permit a drill to be inserted into first and second fluid passage for cleaning. The cutting tool assembly (10) also includes an exterior replaceable spray nozzle housing (14) on the support block having a cylindrical inlet portion (38) that extends into the first fluid passage such that the spray nozzle housing (14) is in fluid communication with the first fluid passage. A separate insert ring independent of a tool holding wear protective sleeve is press fit into the rear portion of the support block and forms an annular flow chamber section of the first fluid passage. The insert ring may be readily removed in the field to permit cleaning of the first fluid passage.

A holder for a pick and the combination of a pick and holder. The pick (1) has a shank (4) received in a socket (6) of a holder (2). The holder (2) carries in its socket (6) a tubular spigot (13) which mates in sealed manner with a coupling socket (15) in the pick shank to provide communication for water flow from a supply passage (16a) through the pick (1) to outlet ports (12). A shoulder (8) on the spigot (13) abuts a sealing ring (18) in the coupling socket (15) to retain the pick in the holder and permit relative longitudinal displacement therebetween. Carried by the tubular spigot (13) is a valve having an actuating rod (22) which extends through the bore of the spigot A valve head (24) on the rod (22) is seatable on a shoulder 123a) to close off water flow through the bore of the spigot. The end (26) of the rod (22) abuts the pick and during displacement of the pick into its holder in response to cutting engagement of the pick with the mineral, the valve head (24) is displaced to permit water flow to the ports (12). When the pick disengages from the mineral, water pressure on the pick and valve head (24) closes the valve head to seal against the shoulder (23a).

Die Erfindung bezieht sich auf eine Einrichtung zum Kühlen der Meissel einer Schrämmaschine mit einer im Bereich des Meissels angeordneten Düse für das unter Druck auszuspritzende Kühlwasser, zu weicher die Wasserzufuhr durch ein Absperrventil absperrbar ist, wobei der Meissel am Meisselhalter entgegen der Kraft einer Feder und des hydraulischen Druckes des Kühlwassers durch den Schnittdruck begrenzt axial verschiebbar gelagert ist und das Absperrventil mit dem Meissel durch ein Kuppelglied derart gekuppelt ist, dass es bei einer Verschiebebewegung des Meissels in Richtung des Schnittdrukkes öffnet. Hiebei ist der Meissel (6) kappenförmig ausgebildet, umschliesst einen in den Meisselhalter (1) einsetzbaren Meisselschaft (3) und ist am Meisselschaft (3) axial verschiebbar gelagert, wobei das Absperrventil (11) und das Kuppelglied (10) im Meisselschaft (3) angeordnet ist. Das Kuppelglied ist hiebei von einem auf den Ventilkörper (11) wirkenden Stössel (10) gebildet, der in einer zentralen Bohrung (9) des Meisselschaftes geführt ist, wobei das Absperrventil (11) entgegen der Wirkung des Schnittdruckes schliesst und durch den Stössel (10) in Richtung des Schnittdruckes geöffnet wird.

A mineral mining pick 1, a holder for such a pick, and the combination of such a pick with a holder 2. The pick has a head 3 with a cutting tip 5 and a shank 4 which is received in a shank socket 6 of the holder 2. Retaining means 7 is provided to releasably secure the pick in the holder. Extending through the pick is a water passage 11 which communicates with outlet ports 12 in the pick head for water flow to suppress dust and cool the tip 5. The passage 11 communicates with a socket 15 which mates with a tubular spigot 13 which is an extension to a fluid supply passage 2a in the holder 2. The spigot 13 is mounted by a resilient sleeve 22 in a tubular housing 19 by which it is removably retained in the holder 2. The sleeve 22 permits displacement of the spigot 13 to accomodate misalignment between the spigot and the socket 15 during coupling thereof as the shank is inserted into its socket 6. The socket 6 is provided with a plastics moulded lining 23 which is replaceable when worn to alleviate wear on the holder 2. In a modification the tubular spigot is carried by (and may be integral with) the pick shank for mating with a fluid coupling socket in the shank socket 6.

Einrichtung zum Kühlen der Meißel (24) von im wesentlichen um eine horizontale Achse (5) rotierbar gelagerten Schrämköpfen (6, 6') und der Ortsbrust (9), unter Vermittlung von Wasserdüsen (15, 16), wobei zu beiden Seiten des Schrämarmes (2) je ein Schrämkopf (6, 6') gelagert ist. Um eine ausreichende Kühlung der Meißel und der Ortsbrust bei möglichst geringem Wasserverbrauch zu erreichen, sind am Schrämarm (2) für jeden Schrämkopf (6, 6') zwei Gruppen von Düsen (15, 15', 16, 16') angeordnet, wobei die Düsen (15,15') einer ersten Gruppe auf den Bereich der höchsten Stellung der Meißel (24) gerichtet sind, und die Düsen (16, 16') der zweiten Gruppe auf die Zwischenräume (43) zwischen Meißelreihen im genannten Bereich der höchsten Stellung der Meißel gerichtet sind. Die Wasserzufuhr zu jeder der beiden einem Schrämkopf zugeordneten Düsengruppen ist gesondert absperrbar, und da beim horizontalen Schrämen nur ein Schrämkopf mit dem zu schrämenden Material in Eingriff steht, ist die Wasserzufuhr jeweils nur zu den diesem Schrämkopf zugeordneten Düsengruppen geöffnet und gesondert von der Wasserzufuhr zu der dem anderen Schrämkopf zugeordneten Düsengruppe absperrbar.
