The variable valve (7, 207, 307, 407) reduces the fluid path area of the supply/discharge passage (4) for simultaneously actuating the fluid pressure pump (10) and the fluid pressure motor (20) to be smaller than the fluid path area for actuating only one of the fluid pressure pump (10) and the fluid pressure motor (20).

An axial piston machine, in particular an axial piston pump, of the swashplate or bent axis type, is described, wherein a fixed control plate (12), which comprises at least one control passage (12a) consisting of a plurality of control passage sections (12b, 12c) separated from each other by bridges (12d), is arranged between a cylinder drum, rotatable in both directions of rotation, and a fixed housing. The object of the invention is to design the control plate of an axial piston machine in such a way that damage by cavitation to the structural parts is prevented over the entire extent of the control passages for the supply and removal of the operating fluid. For this purpose the at least one control passage (12a) in the region at least of one bridge (12d) is provided with a pressure balance opening (13) connecting the surfaces of the control plate (12) with one another.

A variable displacement hydraulic axial piston machine includes (a) a housing having an outlet opening; (b) a barrel mounted in the housing for rotation about a rotation axis; (c) a plurality of pistons movable in respective bores in the barrel; (d) a valve plate coupled to the barrel and having a fluid passage therein that ends at an outlet opening; and (e) a flow tube connecting the outlet opening in the valve plate to the outlet opening in the housing. The barrel and the valve plate are pivotally movable together about a pivot axis transverse the rotation axis for varying the displacement of the pistons in the bores. An end of the flow tube connects to the valve plate while allowing for axial movement of the flow tube relative to the valve plate in a direction parallel to the rotational axis of the barrel.
