The variable capacity compressor includes a valve having an electrical control. The valve is dedicated to fewer than all of the compressing elements. The valve is movable between a first state which communicates refrigerant flow to the compressing elements, and a second state that reduces or stops flow to the compressing elements. In an embodiment of the invention, an unloading controller has an operational modulation mode that includes cycling the valve between on and off states to provide a portion of compressor capacity. The unloading controller is further programmed to provide a minimum delay time between transitions between the first and second states, but no maximum dwell time between transitions.

In another aspect, a multi-stage compressor comprises a lower pressure stage and a higher pressure stage, and at least one suction cutoff unloader valve assembly capable of a rapid cycling to interrupt flow of refrigerant to a lower stage cylinder.

The displacement detection device for a variable displacement compressor is equipped with: a position detection sensor, which is disposed laterally to the piston and outputs a surface displacement signal for the surface to be detected when the piston moves in a reciprocating manner; and an estimation means that measures and stores the waveform pattern (A) of the displacement signal for a stroke of the piston during operation at maximum displacement, detects the waveform pattern (B) of the displacement signal for one stroke of the piston in the current operating state, and estimates the displacement of one stroke of the piston in the current operating state from a comparison of waveform pattern (A) and waveform pattern (B).

Um einen Kältemittelverdichter für Kälteanlagen umfassend mindestens eine Zylindereinheit, die ein Zylindergehäuse und ein in dem Zylindergehäuse oszillierend bewegbaren Kolben aufweist, einen Zylinderkopf, mit einer von einem Einlassstrom der mindestens einen Zylindereinheit durchströmten Einlasskammer und mit einer von einem Auslassstrom der mindestens einen Zylindereinheit durchsetzten Auslasskammer und ein Schaltventil zum Unterbrechen des Einlassstroms, derart zu verbessern, dass dieser in beliebigen Teillastbereichen betreibbar ist, wird vorgeschlagen, dass eine Steuerung zum Ansteuern des Schaltventils vorgesehen ist, welche zum Betrieb des Kältemittelverdichters in einem unteren Teillastbereich das Schaltventil in aufeinanderfolgenden, jeweils ein Öffnungsintervall und ein Schließintervall des Schaltventils umfassenden Schaltintervallen betreibt, die kürzer sind als eine kürzeste Zeitdauer, nach welcher eine Temperatur eines Verdampfers in der arbeitenden Kälteanlage bei Unterbrechung des Einlassstroms um ungefähr 10% angestiegen ist.
