Proposed is a pump with an impeller (1) which is securely mounted by its boss (3) on a shaft (4) so that it cannot rotate. The rear (driven) edges of the impeller rotate, leaving a narrow clearance (a), over the rear wall (5) of the pump housing. Together with the impeller (1), this wall forms a labyrinth gap (6) which connects the pump chamber (2') with a hollow space (7) in the boss. Connected in this hollow space (7) to the impeller (1) so that it cannot rotate is a coaxial flywheel designed to impart a vigorous rotational motion to the liquid in the hollow space (7) and hence force it out of the space. The space (7) has a peripheral opening (12) to allow the liquid to pass out. The air which collects near the shaft (4) escapes through a gap (10) between the boss-housing wall (20) and the shaft (4). The peripheral opening (12) is located in the boss-housing wall (20) and designed as a propulsion nozzle. It opens out into a space (11) adjacent to the hollow space (7) in the boss and connected to it by the gap (10), the nozzle pointing towards a diffusion tube (13) and forming a jet pump (12, 13) through which the liquid emerging from the hollow space (7) in the boss flows.

Deren Einlaß ist an einen mit der Treibmittelkammer (4) verbundenen Zulaufkanal (12) angeschlossen. Eine Bypaßleitung (13) führt von der Saugleitung (10) unter Umgehung des Einlaßes (9) des Diffusors (6) zu dessen Auslaß und enthält ein selbstätig schließendes Ventil (13), das die Bypaßleitung (13) sperrt, wenn Luft angesaugt wird, und sich unter der Wirkung des vom Diffusor (6) erzeugten Unterdrucks öffnet, wenn die Pumpe nur noch Flüssigkeit fördert. Dies erhöht die Saug- und Förderleistung, da die Flüssigkeit nicht mehr ausschließlich den verengten Diffusoreintritt passieren muß, sondern auch durch die Bypaßleitung strömen kann.

A hydraulic fluid pump (10, 90) for aircraft turbine engine fuel delivery systems comprises a housing (12, 96) having a pump drive shaft (16) mounted for rotation therewithin. A centrifugal pump stage (26) includes an impeller (28) coupled to the drive shaft (16) and having a circumferential array of radially extending passages (30) with inlet ends adjacent to the shaft (16) and outlet ends at the periphery of the impeller (28). An inducer stage (34) includes a spiral inducer (36) coupled to the shaft (16) to rotate coaxially with the impeller (28) and having an outlet end adjacent to the inlet end of the impeller passages (30). An injector stage (42, 102) includes a passage (44) in the housing for feeding fluid to the inlet end of the inducer, and a circumferential array of nozzle orifices (90, 104) in the housing aligned with the injector passage and receiving fluid from a collection cavity (32) that surrounds the periphery of the impeller. The pump inlet is fed to the injector passage, with the injector nozzles (90, 104) cooperating with the passage to boost fluid pressure and flow through the passage to the inducer inlet, which in turn boosts fluid pressure and flow to the impeller (28).

Pump system (1) includes a centrifugal pump (2) having an inlet reservoir (3) connected to the upstream end thereof for initially receiving the vapor/liquid mixture entering the system to allow air or vapor to separate from the liquid. Below the liquid level (L) in the reservoir is a mixing tube (25) which provides the only liquid flow path to the centrifugal pump (2). Also within the reservoir (3) below the liquid level (L) is a main ejector pump (20) which injects liquid into the mixing tube (25). The injected tube induces liquid flow from the reservoir (3) into the mixing tube (25) for flow to the centrifugal pump (2). Also, one or more vapor scavenge ejectors may be provided within the reservoir (3) to induce air or vapor from selected collected areas within the reservoir (3) and propel the air or vapor into the mixing tube (25) intermediate its length where the air or vapor is thoroughly mixed with the liquid contained therein at an intermediate pressure higher than the reservoir pressure before entering the centrifugal pump (2).

This is achieved with a pump by virtue of the fact that the at least one nozzle (7) is arranged in the pump inlet (4), wherein an entry of liquid into an interior (6) of the pump housing (2) is possible only through the nozzle (7), and the degassing device has a control device which is connected to the drive motor (3).
