It includes steps that consist, at each iteration, in calculating a set of internal states (N11, Q11, C11, H, Q) associated to the operating point of the machine, establishing a linearized transfer function (£lin(s)) in function of the set of internal states, calculating characteristics parameters (Kp, Ti, Td) of the controller in function of the transfer function so that the control loop feedback system is stable, measuring the rotation speed (N) of the hydraulic machine and comparing it with a target rotation speed (Nc), and adjusting the guide vanes so as to reduce the speed difference (”N) between the calculated and the target rotation speed.

A directing system for directing fluid entering an axial flow turbine along an inlet flow direction. The turbine includes a plurality of turbine blades. The directing system includes a base structure, a plurality of directing segments attached to the base structure, downstream of the base structure, and a directing segment adjustment system for adjustably positioning the directing segments between a retracted configuration and a deployed configuration. The directing segments, in the deployed configuration, extend beyond the base structure in a direction transversal to the inlet flow direction and deflect the fluid towards an outer circumference of the plurality of turbine blades corresponding to a higher torque area of the blades. A directing system for directing fluid entering a cross-flow turbine is also disclosed. In the cross-flow turbine, the fluid is directed towards a centerline of the rotor of the turbine, which is a high torque area of the turbine blades.

If blades have been struck by wind that has reached a power reduction start wind speed that is lower than a conventional cut-out wind speed at which torque acting on a main shaft reaches the torque limit, a wind turbine generator performs torque reduction control for causing the change in the torque when wind speed is higher than the power reduction start wind speed to be different from change in the torque when wind speed is lower than the power reduction start wind speed so as to prevent the torque from exceeding the torque limit at the conventional cut-out wind speed. For example, if the wind striking the blades reaches the power reduction start wind speed, the wind turbine generator sets the slope of change in torque lower than that before the power reduction start wind speed is reached. Accordingly, the wind turbine generator can reduce the load acting on a device and suppress a reduction in power even if the blades are struck by strong wind.
