A pad (22) for isolating a weight (4) from vibration of a resonant beam (8) in a resonant beam support system (6) for dissipating heat. The pad is constructed of a rubberlike material having ridges (58) and grooves (60). The ridges and grooves include a trapezoidal configuration which yields an increasing resistance to compression, i.e., spring rate, with increasing deflection. Altering the configuration of the ridges and grooves permits variation in spring rate. The pads may be constructed of standard truck tire recap tread and arranged in a square configuration. Water is injected between the pads and grooves through inlets (50, 52) to cool the pads. An aluminum plate (48) is mounted between first and second layers (40, 41) of tire recap tread to increase heat dissipation.

A tubular elastomer damper (11) has a central shaft (12) disposed within a housing (13) and surrounded by an elastomer member (14). Uniform strain is provided across the elastomer disposed between the central shaft and the housing by either tapering the length of the elastomer from an inner bonding surface (15) to an outer bonding surface (16) such that the radius times the length at each point along the elastomer is equal or by providing a first elastomer layer (28) adjacent the shaft (26) having a high fatigue strain/lower damping ability, a second elastomer layer (29) adjacent the housing (27) having a low strain higher damping ability and an intermediate elastomer layer (30) of moderate strain and damping therebetween such that from the inner to the outer radius of the elastomer member, uniform strain is achieved. By providing uniform strain from the inner to the outer radius of the tubular elastomer damper, temperature increases due to localized high strains are avoided which are detrimental to damper performance. Optionally, axial cooling passages are provided within the elastomer member to dissipate heat to assure operation within design parameters, thus extending the life of the tubular elastomer damper.

The present invention relates to reduction of temperatures in various portions of an electric motor and improvement of duration of vibration damping effect of a rubber vibration isolator (7). As shown in Fig. 1, vent holes (6a, 7a) are provided in a bracket (6) and the rubber vibration isolators (7). A vent passage (8) is provided at opposing surface of the rubber vibration isolator, which vent passage consists of a space along which air can flow. A heat resistance life of the electric motor is prolonged and a duration of vibration damping effect of the rubber vibration isolator is improved.
