The invention discloses an improved means for terminating an end of a fibre rope which reduces the abrasion of the fibres during repeated tensioning of the rope. The means comprises a socket (1) in which at least part (2) of the inner wall is tapered, and a member (3) having the shape of a cone which fits within the socket so as to provide a space between the tapered inner wall of the socket and the body of the cone of substantially constant annular area. The improvement comprises the member (3) being of such length that when the means is in use to terminate an end of the rope (5), no portion of the socket (1) projects beyond the member (3) in a manner whereby it makes contact with the fibres of the rope to cause abrasion of the fibres.

Various embodiments of the present disclosure provide a hollow-braided rope having a new and improved rope termination formed therein and a new and improved rope termination system for forming the rope termination. Generally, the rope termination of the present disclosure is formed using a double-braided portion of hollow-braided rope in conjunction with a set of mechanical components of the rope termination forming system. The use of both the double-braided portion of the hollow-braided rope and the set of mechanical components causes any applied tensile forces to be distributed between the double-braided portion and the mechanical components. The distribution of part of any applied tensile forces away from the mechanical components and to the double-braided portion of the hollow-braided rope itself enables the mechanical components to be relatively small and lightweight and reduces the size and weight of the rope termination without compromising strength.

L'opération est réalisée à l'aide d'une torche micro-plasma ou TIG (16) placée au-dessus de l'extrémité du câble, laquelle est maintenue verticalement et dépasse d'un manchon (14) dont la paroi interne est dotée, à sa partie supérieure, d'une encoche (18) servant à recueillir le métal en fusion. La portion de matière fondue est ensuite remodelée par forgeage pour former un embout de toute forme désirée. L'invention concerne également la pièce obtenue par ce procédé.

The arrangement consists of an outer casing made of a rigid material relative to the material of the body, into which outer casing one end or edge of the body is capable of being introduced, and a wedge device arranged in the aforementioned direction and capable of being introduced into the aforementioned end or edge, so arranged upon being introduced as to cause the end of the body to expand and in so doing to force its peripheral surface against the walls of the outer casing. Characteristic features of the invention are that the moduli of elasticity, Eij, the moduli of shearing, Gij, and the indices of transverse contraction, upsilonij, of the wedge are approximately identical with those of the body in the longitudinal and transverse directions and in thickness.

An electrical isolator includes a flexible non-electrically conductive membrane and an inelastic flexible dielectric member journalled in the membrane and extending from the first end of the membrane to the second end of the membrane. First and second coupling members are anchored to the ends of the dielectric member. The ends of the membrane are mated in sealed engagement with the coupling members so that the coupling members fluidically seal the ends of the membrane and fluidically seal the dielectric member within the membrane. The membrane is filled with a dielectric fluid so as to displace any air in the membrane and the dielectric member. The coupling members are adapted to couple to objects at opposite ends of the electrical isolator.
